Partita for String Orchestra - (2021)

An opening of aggressive pizzicati is followed by melodic clusters over a theme in the bass, with continuation of the first movement through additional themes and contrapuntal methods layered into a quasi-symphonic form.

This is followed by a small adagio in the divisi strings, violins first and then violas and celli. The full orchestra then completes the longer cadence.

A jaunty melody first in the second violins and then with small ornamentation in the first violins plays out in a waltz format.

The vivo brings pizzicati again, as the violas take their melodic turn,

The adagio which follows, second of two in the partita, is underpinned by sonorous divisi, as the chord progressions play out in motet like fashion, moving lines embedded in the texture.

The prestissimmo is a fugue rollicking through mediant and dominant domains as answers to the accompanied first appearance of the subject. As coda elements of earlier movements return.
