Canon and Fugue for Three Violins and Basso Continuo

Canon and Fugue for Three Violins and Basso Continuo - (2024)

A small chamber work with thoughts back to the many marvelous contrapuntal works of these last centuries. After the statement of the ground bass in organ and cello, the first entrance is made. Thereafter through 18 repetitions, the entire canon is fully played out, its final cadence linked to the first statement of the fugue subject.

A slightly more buoyant allegro begins with its coutnerpoint, and thereafter all the players take their turns with the subject and answer interplay.
