Sonatina for Violoncello and Piano - (2015)

The sonatina is sectional and without a break, a movement flowing into the next. The opening is meditative, hushed and long-lined, in a slow harmonic rhythm as structure.

This yields to a presto, again with its harmonic rhythm developmental and then interrupted by scalar motion.

The onward rush spends itself, and is answered by an adagio in which the simple theme of the piano is ornamented by a descending chromatic line in the violoncello.

The again meditative mood is swept away by a con moto section, syncopations in the piano accompanying a percussive theme in the cello.

Themes and harmonic gestures return, and are juxtaposed, leading to a quiet lyrical moment in the upper range of the violoncello, before a final restatement of the con moto and forceful coda.
