Concerto No. 2 for Horn in F and Strings - (2023)
The solo horn outlines the bright C major of the opening fanfare. The strings punctuate, and then make a small episode before the repeat of the fanfare.
The statement of the theme begins clearly at measure 26, and is taken up by the various sections in a variety of tonal domains, sometimes quite distant from the tonic. Contrapuntal treatment follows in a jaunty mood.
The adagio follows with shift to A minor and change of meter and mood. Simple, long lines contrast with the opening movement's song.
An allegretto in the strings changes the mood once again, and then the allegro molto begins an extended fugue for all the voices.
