A notated and long "arpeggio" constructs the opening major nine chord, and then chromatic inner voices drop by half steps under the melodic shape above. Continuing variants on this scheme including both major and minor color the whole. Succeeding variants cadence in a number of harmonically distant domains, as the work progresses.
