Singers and Dancers Alike - 2016

for organ

The short 87th Psalm is translated in many ways. In the literate King James version, the last line:  "Both the singers and the players on instruments say, 'All my springs are in you.' " Psalm 87: 7.

In the original Hebrew, those who sing ( שָׁרִים ) and those who who play instruments ( כְּחֹלְלִים ) are included in "the springs" or wellsprings of a people.

That artists contribute to  prayer as to adoration is a feature of many traditions, and this phrase from the longer sentence mentions singers (in reference to singing but also to the minstrel who moves) and players (associated with dance as well, and interpreted in this way by some translations) inspired this melodic lilt, moving between 3/4 and 6/8.
