A simple parallel gesture is answered with arpeggios as introduction to a melody with a busily decorated accompaniment. Several statements at the tonic and mediant give a quasi-hymn structure to the movement. Registrations and dynamics throughout are not marked, leaving this to the player and instrument.

 

 

 

The subject is stated with its companion second voice and then proceeds through many statements in the expected relationships for this fugue.
