Adagio leggiero in F sharp - (2024)
for organ
A distinction is made between 'progression 'and 'succession,' in terms of harmonies, specifically by Schoenberg. This short meditation is constructed on chord successions, for four major sevens using inversions to bind the common tones together -- F sharp major 7, D major 7, B major 7 and G major 7. All with F sharp as the common tone. The pedal adds further continuity to the long tonic, as a melody in the 'tenor' voice is spun out. A cadenza-like set of arpeggios provides textural change as well as holding to the overall schema.
