Swingtime and Fugue in E major

Swingtime and Fugue in E major - (2010)

for piano

A light-hearted theme in swing time dances above its bass line, the second and fourth beats of the "triple-duple" meter receiving additional stress for the fun of it. The theme repeats and then shows itself in the relative minor as at measure 9 with syncopated interludes and a final restatement in the bass line before the fugue.

The fugue begins with its "lick" announcing the motive's motion. An accompanying figure of longer notes places the swing syncopation in its proper order. The fugue moves between tonic and dominant with various interludes and a final coda-like repeat of the head motive cascading downward to its final rest.

The score is 4 pages, with an approximate performance time of 2' 40."
