Prelude and Fugue in E flat minor - piano

Prelude and Fugue in E flat minor - (2011)

for piano

Parallel triadic harmony fills out the first statement of three unequal phrases. Decorative references to it feature the inner voices shifting between duple and triple gestures, still within the the parallel frame, with the addition of the raised sixth in coloring the chords. Several long-arched statements complete the prelude.

The fugue subject reflects the triple-duple swap as found in the inner voices of the prelude, now a part of the statement itself. The dominant is the first answer, and then a sojourn to the submediant adds additional harmonic color, as afforded by the natural minor's easy way between tonal domains.
