Prelude and Fugue in B flat minor - (2011)
for piano
The prelude opens with polytonal colors, followed by a three-voice chorale of sorts based on those harmonic hues. And adagio which then follows is a decoration of the familiar B-A-C-H theme loco and in the logical transposition up for the tonality. Several restatements of the building blocks for this prelude then recur.
The fugue subject is drawn from Bach's Die Kunst der Fuge, with interloping decorative counterpoint joining at the first statement. Restatements in which the subject appears in more dense harmonization. Coupling with the B-A-C-H theme drawn from the first note into two voices (as at measure 53) the fugue progresses to its logical conclusion.
