Partita No 8 for Harpsichord - (2019)
The work is predicated on a classic, five octave instrument, F to f. An opening gesture establishes tonality and following gestures link older traditions to newer. Canonic techniques are used throughout the partita.
A next section is contrapuntal and moves with ease to the mediant tonal region as part of the thematic structures of the overall work.
The more energetic section yields to an introspective movement of simple form.
As variety in texture the next section uses alternate hands percussively.
More sectional textures follow, and the final section begins as an accompanied fugue the bass voice to underpin the romp, with movement to both the expected dominant and less expected mediant tonal regions.
