On "Jenny on the Railroad" - (2024)
This duo is based on what some term an "old time" fiddle tune. Looking back in time, a first field recording seems to date from circa 1928, though the tune is likely much older, with a number of variants and has been replayed in a variety of fiddling ways, More recently, the New Lost City Ramblers, circa 1958, focused on the traditional playing styles they heard on old 78rpm records of the 1920s and 1930s, many of whom had earlier appeared on the Anthology of American Folk Music. The tune is included in Marion Thede's "The Fiddle Book" (1967) and some say it is a "Texas tune" although antecedents appear. An early source is Carter Brothers and Son of Monroe County in Mississippi, according to some sourced to 1928, and others which date it to June of 1929.
