On "Di Sapozhkelekh"" - (2023)

This is a melody said to have been "collected" from a Russian emigre, Bronya Sakina (born in Olvanisk, southern Ukraine), and popularized by various klezmer groups. The lyrics in an additive form speak of selling small things to help pay for lovers to be rejoined, selling boots, a shawl, or to do without all to travel to be with "my pet, my little bird." From a recollected folksong to film and even Broadway, as this melody was included in "Those Were the Days," an English-Yiddish Musical Revue in 1990-91.
