On "À coco, gendarme" - (2023)
A "Comptine pour sauter sur les genoux," this children's rhyme and folk melody is spun out in through both voices and a number of harmonic domains. "Mount up, men-at-arms" to go to war, a topic often found as part of juvenile culture and literature. This is just as true in the so-called modern era as was in centuries before.
"À coco gendarme, / À pied, Bourguignon, / Allons à la guerre, / Les autres y sont. / Au pas, au pas, au pas, / Au trot, au trot, au trot, / Au galop, au galop, au galop."
