Musing on "Divinum mysterium" - (2025)
for organ
A concert at Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church on Daniel Island was our second occasion to visit, with its wonderful acoustics. Madelaine Beckford, its Director of Music and Liturgy, had sung in a performance of Britten's Ceremony of Carols, and is the church's organist, as well as a piano teacher locally and member of the local AGO. We chatted awhile before the concert, and she then had suggested the medieval plainchant melody as a subject for a work. From triple and duple meter versions of the tune over history's span and many treatments, the duple meter was chosen for this musing.
