As part of a set of melodic challenges for improvisations for an event sponsored by the local chapter of the American Guild of Organists, a theme (1899) attributed to French organist and composer Eugène Gigout (1844-1925) was listed. For the fun of it, it became theme for this little set of variations conceived for harpsichord.
