On "Die rothaarige Prinzessin reitet ihr Fahrrad" - (2018)

for piano

Karin Magedanz gewidmet

This little prelude and fugue form is tonal colored with polytonal functional hues. The "indigestible" augmented fourth relationship -- so-called by Roy Travis in an amusing paper and lecture from years ago -- is stated outright in the first chords and then again in the melodic gestures thereafter. A 5/8 meter throughout allows a lilt to the work in total.

The title is an imagining, that redheaded "princess" on her bicycle, sporty and perky and rather public as well.

The fugue stresses the five quarters, and then breaks the five into generally 3 plus 2. Varying tonal domains is classical fashion are visited, with episodic material from the prelude to unify the whole.
