Arabesque and Fugue in B flat - (2023)

for organ

Musing on fives, this work is marked in 15/8 time, though one may think of it as a 5/4 though then the triplet figure would have to have been spelled with triplet notation. This was simpler, as a notation if unusual. The 'pedal' B flat at the last of each of the the trioles lingers through many measures before roaming further. The left hand's melodic arch moves between quarters and dotted quarters to give an improvisatory feeling. The form is a simple set of variants.

The fugue outlines the larger triad into a four note span of the seventh, and the two phrases are wholly related at the fourth with the cadence restating the tonic, Answers appear in the expected dominant. Arpeggios provide episodes.
