To a patient smile - (2020)
for Michelle Wallring
A gentle ballade in E major is composed as a thank you to Michelle Wallring, whose work with the home hospice serving my father-in-law, of almost 97 years, assisted in his peaceable transition into the next world. One may think grammatically, "to a patient, smile," as to the adjectival phrase as an ode "to a patient smile." Molto rubato a piacere is advised and encouraged. The inner voices are shared between both hands, much in the left as the melodic phrases above sing out.
