Tidbits for Three Piccolos - (2024)
Little suites or divertimenti for various small ensembles make for fun, so do I think. Of musical tidbits, this little trio seemed a tasty idea. After a simple introduction, an allegretto canon at the quarter note interval trips along, at first in D Dorian , Moving through harmonic domains quickly, it returns tinged with major, before ceding to a short andante clearly in C.
The more lyrical andante is a simple melodic line with accompaniment.
Thereafter a moment in 5/8 erases the overt major of the preceding andante.
An allegro and then final allegretto reprising the first section's gestures finish this small set of "morsels."
