Swingtime and Fugue in F minor

Swingtime and Fugue in F minor - (2011)

for piano

A set of gestures rises from piano to forte, breaking into a wash of harmonic sound. The swingtime theme beginning at measure nine features the bass line under repetitive chords, rising the octave and beyond. Static moments of polytonal chords break the mood, and return to the opening gambit and truncated theme.

The harmonic minor subject is answered at first by the parallel major, and thereafter by the dominant harmonic minor as well as moving through other domains. The final statements draw down to the bottom range of the piano fortissimo.

The score is 3 pages, with an approximate performance time of 3' 15."
