Swingtime and Fugue in E flat minor - (2011)
for piano
Delicate filigree of scalar passages introduces this very slow swingtime, remaining mostly in the natural minor which also picks up colors from its parallel major. Some small "gospel" harmonic colors flavor the theme, as at measure six and thereafter.
The fugue subject opens with a written-out decoration and then spans an eleventh upward before falling back. Another voice enters before the answer is given in the dominant minor and thereafter three voices carry the texture throughout. The fugue ends quietly in its major-minor seven form of the tonic.
The score is 2 pages, with an approximate performance time of 3' 00."
