Swingtime and Fugue in D major - (2011)
for piano
A rollicking top line romps over a secco bass line, of few repeating patterns, after a short introduction to the tonality and meter. Lightly contrasting episodic material makes this into a song form of sorts. This work completes a set of Swingtimes and Fugues in the twenty-four keys.
The fugue takes up the infectious bounce of the swingtime, and is stated in the clear at the outset before the answer comes in the dominant. Several sweeps of chromatic and diatonic scales decorate and separate the subject's appearances across the wide range of the keyboard.
The score is 4 pages, with an approximate performance time of 2' 15."
