Swingtime and Fugue in A major

Swingtime and Fugue in A major - (2011)

for piano

Decorated scalar outlines make up the theme of both swingtime and fugue. The stress before the second beat characterizes the texture, as the alto voice makes light dissonance against the top line. Small episodic material make this into an ABA form which ends quietly.

The fugue's top notes mimic the swingtime theme as well, with lower neighbors adding to the whimsy. Light syncopation creates a six from the four large beats as transition to the first answer. As earlier, the fugue chuckles to a quiet close.
