Prelude and Fugue in E modal - (2008)
for organ
This is the fourth in a series of works for single stop, as for those small organs with but one manual, as one sees often in European churches as a secondary instrument.
The thematic material for this work couples a number of modes, from the whole tone to the modern Phrygian, in an interplay between the higher and lower tessitura of a Gedeckt stop. The texture is florid gestures giving way to block chords and back again.
