Prelude and Fugue in D minor - (2012)
for piano
A two-part texture sings momentary half-step dissonances within the tonic minor, both natural and harmonic. Short episodes of diatonic clusters and parallel triads break the texture and prepare its return.
The fugue subject is a diminution of the prelude's opening theme, stressing both the raised and lowered seventh within its span. Answers are in the expected dominant with textural elements from the prelude appearing as counterpoint..
