The duple-triple of the opening gestures gives way to a syncopation of duple rhythm at measure five for two measures. A duet of voices in sixths leads to the second statement of the theme, as at measure 11 with the voicing inverted.

 

 

The simple fugue subject and subsequent episodic gestures feature written-out ornamentation, as the subject's answers play out. The first measures of the prelude mix with a stretto-like coda to bring this short prelude and fugue to a close.
