Prelude and Fugue in A flat minor - (2012)
for piano
Diatonic triads yield to the inclusion of non-harmonic tones, becoming fully polytonal as at measure 16. The "tenor voice" predominant in the midst of the prelude becomes the fugue subject to follow.
The fugue opens out of the final cadence, and as a stretto at the outset with a third voice for harmonic content. Additional recurrences of the subject occur beginning on other notes of the natural minor, including the seventh as an emphasized color which also begins the prelude. The last cadence retires into a lightly polytonal quiet.
