Prelude and Fugue in A flat minor - organ

Prelude and Fugue in A flat minor - (2010)

for organ

The motivic and harmonic kernel of prelude is stated at the outset. The soprano voice divides into a two duple gestures per measure, while the alto voice divides easily into three, emphasizing the raised sixth and seventh of the harmonic minor scale. Throughout the tonic is also restated, as if a pedal. Under and later above this "kernel," are stated long melodic phrases underpinned by offset pedal tones.

The fugue subject also is in the harmonic minor, as underneath a long-lined statement based on the fugue subject is stated in the tonic, then dominant and again in the tonic as the fugue goes on above. The registration is intended for the softer flutes, for this gentle moment musicale.
