Praeludium et Fughetta

Praeludium et Fughetta - (2014)
for piano

for Clarissa and Dale Carlson

Of course the tongue-in-cheek use of Latin as the title is extended with the subtitle to reference the theme of the work, the tuning of a ukulele or, in Latin, Canis meus pulices. But why?

In conversation late this summer with my college chum and her husband, we'd talked about various things including her "hovering" Catholicism, our time at Immaculate Heart College so many years ago, as well as her family's flirtation with playing ukulele, one sitting on her piano at home. Clarissa sang the famous line. Thus was this a confluence of silly things. And why not?
