On "Goder afton" - (2017)

A Swedish holiday carol sings: "Goder afton / goder afton / välkommen var gäst, / vi önskar eder alla / en fröjdefull fest." As with the illustration above, detail from a Carl Larsson (1853-1919) painting from 1904, titled simply "Christmas Eve," for this New Year's Eve of 2017, we welcome to a festive, candlelit table our guests with this wish,. which in translation reads: "Good evening, good evening. Welcome to every guest. We wish you all a joyful feast."
The form is a simple set of variations the last being in contrapuntal form.
