On Contrapunctus IX

On Contrapunctus IX - (2012)

an essay for piano

The B-A-C-H signature appears as an ornamentation at the beginning, and thereafter in a number of guises as the ninth contrapunctus subject with its leap of an octave is the theme herein. The mimic at the second in inversion accompanies the first statement. The turn in replaced as at measure 10 with a similar rhythmic gesture, and parallel fifths play their role in the counterpoint. A number of fugue statements are heard before simple "in the clear" signatures of B-A-C-H act as episodic breaks between the statements of the subject.
