Over a dinner of roasted duck and friendly glasses of various things, discussion turned for a short time to notions of composition from various methods, and applying ideas like unto surrealism's "found objects" or Cage's various games. Eun Sun suggested a number, and then because of a chosen form its partition into two parts, one for each of two subjects, and then the parsing of the "found" number into notes based on a whole step interpretation of them. A different composition would have resulted from the same basic row of numbers, but another form as structure, and another parsing of the numbers into half step reading, and so on. This set of numbers, treated a certain way, implied the two themes, the second fully a whole tone relationship as to scale elements. There after, musing about the implications formed this study for piano. And thoughts of a pleasant dinner with my wife and Eun Sun, and of course some pleasant glasses of....
