Exordium - (2013)
for organ
for Carson Cooman
A new single manual instrument newly has been built by John Bennett, with two stops, an Italian principal at 8' and a flute of 4'. As a companion piece to Contemplations imagined for the 8' wooden principal alone, this contrapuntal work is imagined with the short introduction for 8' alone, and then the fugue form modified by a caccia texture as the two voices hand the lead back and forth is imagined for the two stops together, bright and bubbly. In addition to the expected tonal relationships, a short excursion to the mediant major is also included.
