Concerto for Oboe d'amore and Strings - (2022)   


   

After penning a piece for oboe d'amore and organ recently, I thought to employ that as the adagio movement of a larger work. Thus this three movement concerto was begun. The opening  allegretto is a modified rondo form in the Dorian with repetition and contrapuntal episodes of some contrasting flavors and textures.

 

 

 The adagio lirico which follows the rondo is a simple song form for solo voice in the Lydian mode, with the episode as contrast/

 

 

An andante breaks the mood of the preceding adagio with pizzicati and then imitative gestures to follow.

 

 

The allegro which ends is a simple fugue form, beginning with the opening statement in the Lydian, pizzicati accompanying the solo oboe.
