Christ Church Meditation - (2001)
for organ
As a function of composing Alice, an opera in two acts after the stories of Lewis Carroll, I had composed an entr'acte to open the second act, also titled "Through the Looking-Glass." The name, Lewis Carroll, was the nom-de-plume of Charles Dodgson, a don at Christ Church, Oxford, and it was in the lovely locale of that college that the tales were invented. The entr'acte is not planned now to open that second act, and as a result I have reduced it to this composition for organ. Having been in the church itself associated with the college and heard a concert there years ago, it seemed apt that this meditation was meant for organ.
